Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon that leads people to see faces in inanimate objects—trees, power outlets, buildings, and even cars. Research shows that many people unconsciously choose their cars based on the facial expression they perceive: some look serious, others aggressive, and some simply look happy.
Building on this insight, we created a promotional experience designed exclusively for drivers with “happy cars.” An idea that combines artificial intelligence, a psychological effect, and emotion to connect with people through something they see every day but rarely think about: the face of their car.
Using an AI-powered visual recognition system installed at the entrance of AutoMac lanes, incoming vehicles were scanned and analyzed in real time. The algorithm evaluated the front of each car, identified its perceived facial expression, and assigned it a “happiness score.” That score was instantly converted into a personalized discount on a Big Mac.
The happier the car looked, the bigger the discount.
A simple, playful, and highly shareable experience that turned the car’s smile into a real one at the moment of purchase.
The promotion was amplified through outdoor and digital channels, inviting drivers to look at their cars—and their daily drive—through a completely new lens.
