Creative Use of Data
Breastmilk Money transforms public health data into a story about value.
Built inside the Herconomy mobile banking app and amplified across film, out of home, live education, and social platforms, the initiative used WHO intake averages and live Nigerian formula prices to calculate how much mothers save by breastfeeding instead of purchasing formula.
But instead of presenting statistics alone, the campaign translated those numbers into narrative. In a market where formula is marketed as modern and aspirational, and breastfeeding is often invisible or stigmatized, Breastmilk Money reframed care work as wealth. Each mother could see a personalized monthly savings figure and transfer that amount directly into a dedicated savings account earning 14.3 percent interest, inspired by documented developmental benefits linked to exclusive breastfeeding.
Across traditional and public spaces, the work made breastfeeding financially visible. Out of home placements, live demonstrations, educational sessions with doctors and lactation specialists, and a short film all reinforced the same message: women’s health labor has measurable value.
By turning data into cultural storytelling, Breastmilk Money shifted perception, sparked conversation, and supported sustained behavior change.
