To announce the addition of their latest cyclist, Bailey McDonald, Team Novo Nordisk — the only professional cycling team made up of riders who all live with type 1 diabetes — wanted to create a film and campaign that would reach beyond the professional cycling fan community and resonate deeply with others living with diabetes. We created this film in antithesis to other, more polished, heroic videos with a powerful voiceover and pumped up music. By centering the storytelling around a real phone call between Bailey and his mom and weaving the jarring sound of a glucose monitor into a specially-composed soundscape, we hope to create an honest portrait of Bailey and provide an instant connection with others living with the disease — to inspire and show what is truly possible.
