GoBoot is the world’s first open-source smart boot designed to help people with Parkinson’s fight freezing of gait—a sudden, common, and often dangerous inability to move. By integrating advanced Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) directly into lightweight footwear, GoBoot helps neurological signals reach the legs and supports smoother, more confident steps. Created through collaboration between engineers, doctors, footwear designers, and people living with Parkinson’s, GoBoot reimagines mobility support as something intuitive and empowering. The boot features step-sensing technology, a propulsive sole, wireless charging, and an easy-to-use mobile interface, all packaged in a form designed for everyday life. Most importantly, GoBoot is open-source. Its full blueprint is available for researchers, medical technologists, and manufacturers to build upon, adapt, and scale. By releasing the design publicly, the creators aimed not just to launch a product, but to spark a global movement encouraging others to innovate, iterate, and bring new solutions to the millions living with Parkinson’s. GoBoot proves that when technology, creativity, and humanity come together, we can reimagine Parkinson’s treatment, and fight the freeze together.
