Safehaven set out to address a gap traditional awareness campaigns have consistently failed to close. While conversations around inclusion have expanded, children with medical complexity remain largely absent from everyday social life, not intentionally excluded, but rarely understood or confidently included by their peers. The barrier wasn’t intent, it was behaviour. Parents want to guide their children in moments of curiosity, but without the tools or language, those moments those moments are often interrupted with a familiar instinct: “don’t stare.” What is meant as kindness quietly teaches something else. Don’t ask. Don’t engage. Move on. Over time, curiosity becomes hesitation, and hesitation becomes distance. Instead of creating another campaign about inclusion, Safehaven created “Where Hope Lives,” a board game designed to help families practice it. By transforming a sensitive topic into a shared, low-pressure experience, the work gave parents and children a natural way to build empathy, confidence, and understanding together. With no paid media, the strategy combined earned reach, influencer demonstration, and direct distribution into homes and summer camps, ensuring the idea was not just seen, but used. The result was early-stage cultural impact: 26 million earned impressions, a 252% increase in traffic to the Safehaven store, a 235% increase in donations, and direct engagement with nearly 18,000 children, turning inclusion from something people support into something they actively practice.
