“SOS on Your Wrist” tells one emergency through three simultaneous experiences: a trail runner injured alone in the wilderness, a search-and-rescue team mobilizing to reach him, and his wife waiting for information at home.
The edit is where those three worlds become one story.
Rather than presenting the rescue linearly, the film moves continuously between isolation, action, and anticipation. An SOS sent from the mountain triggers action elsewhere. Rescuers move closer as the runner waits. Updates reaching his wife change the emotional stakes without interrupting the film for exposition.
The editorial challenge was compounded by footage captured across eight camera formats, remote mountain locations, multiple narrative units, and a practical helicopter rescue.
The edit had to unify radically different material while preserving geography, escalating tension, and maintaining the emotional clarity of all three characters.
Most importantly, the edit transforms an invisible process, the transmission of information, into the film’s dramatic engine. By controlling what each character and the audience knows at any given moment, the film turns a technological feature into suspense, anticipation, and ultimately relief.
