Tooheys is the official beer of the NSW Blues, a rugby league team that plays at State of Origin, Australia’s biggest sporting rivalry. A series between two states, New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland (QLD) who genuinely love to hate each other. For the 2026 State of Origin decider, The NSW Blues and Tooheys faced parallel battles as they headed north into hostile Queensland territory. In a state fiercely loyal to their beer and inherently resistant to NSW brands, Tooheys had to fight much harder for attention. Meanwhile, the Blues were facing a do-or-die match in a stadium where they had won only three deciders in Origin history. For both the beer and the team, Queensland felt almost impenetrable. If you’re going to invade enemy territory, do it like the Ancient Greeks did. Tooheys turned its iconic stag logo into a 4 metre tall Trojan Stag to infiltrate enemy territory. The Trojan Stag was packed with beer, flaunted a giant NSW Blues scarf and farted out blue confetti at its enemies. With the mission to antagonise its enemies, Tooheys paraded the Trojan Stag past key enemy landmarks including QLD Rugby Lead HQ, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane city centre, QLD supporter bars on the iconic Caxton Street and even the rival XXXX Brewery. On game day, the stag had its final mission: infiltrate the Lord Alfred Hotel, a central spot where enemy supporters gather to watch the game. In a surprise activation the Trojan Stag delivered one final payload. A hidden marching band burst out playing the Tooheys jingle (that had been previously been adopted as the Blues team song) led by enemy of QLD and NSW Blues legend, Aaron Woods. The psychological warfare paid off. Much like the Battle of Troy, our "Trojan Stag" infiltrated enemy lines, the Blues took home the win, and history repeated itself.
