To launch Shot Ready, Steph Curry’s book about the preparation behind extraordinary performance, Random House and Known turned one static Los Angeles billboard into a live sports-culture event. The cover pictured Curry at the end of his signature jump shot, but without a basketball. The campaign made the November supermoon the missing ball. Known’s in-house PhD astrophysicist calculated the moon’s trajectory, timing and viewing geometry; OUTFRONT Media secured the precisely oriented billboard; and photographers and creators gathered at the calculated sightline. For a narrow three-night window, the rising moon appeared to leave Curry’s fingertips. The illusion happened entirely in the real world: no CGI, no composited moon, no digital screen and no mechanical installation. The billboard, the sky and the viewer’s position became one media system. With a client investment of $15,000 and no paid amplification beyond the original placement, the campaign generated 140 million impressions in its first 24 hours and more than 390 million overall. ESPN SportsCenter, Bleacher Report, Complex, Steph Curry, Justin Bieber and creators shared the moment globally. One billboard made the philosophy of Shot Ready visible: the impossible shot is earned through preparation.
