For decades, film captions were treated as a basic utility: serviceable but emotionless. Lacking timing, tone, character clarity, and emotional nuance, they left millions of Deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers with a diminished version of the film experience.
Caption with Intention changes that.
It introduces a new visual language for captions. Words animate in sync with speech. Expressive typography changes size and weight to reflect tone and volume. Color coding helps distinguish between speakers. Every element from timing to typeface was crafted to ensure captions don’t just convey the words, they convey what’s being said, how it’s being said, when, and by whom.
Over 10 months, the system was refined in partnership with a 125-person panel from the Deaf community. Their feedback shaped every design decision, making it more intuitive, immersive, and emotionally resonant. Meaning millions of viewers wouldn’t just read dialogue, they’d feel the film.
