In South Korea, where students endure an average of 12 hours of study a day, the Triangle Gimbap is the ultimate symbol of a rushed meal. To save a mere 30 seconds, many teenagers habitually consume their food cold, straight from the shelf—a habit that leads to chronic digestive issues. Naver Webtoon saw an opportunity to hack this behavior by tapping into a culture shared by 99% of Korean teenagers. We introduced 'TOON-BAP,' a campaign that transformed the humble Triangle Gimbap into a functional digital medium. By teaming up with 7-ELEVEN and utilizing thermal-sensitive printing technology, we concealed "Cookie Codes" (digital currency for webtoons) on the packaging. These codes remain invisible until the Triangle Gimbap is heated in a microwave to the optimal temperature. By syncing the cultural obsession of "Baking Cookies" (purchasing webtoon episodes) with the physical act of heating a meal, we turned a tedious 30-second wait into a moment of digital anticipation. 'TOON-BAP' effectively evolved the convenience store from a place where teens "rush" a cold snack into a space where they "enjoy" a warm, proper meal, proving that a medium as simple as a Triangle Gimbap can become a powerful tool for public health when powered by the right cultural insight.
