THE WRESTLER: A HAND-CRAFTED FILM EXPOSING HOW ALGORITHMS FUEL EATING DISORDERS IN CHILDREN.
Every day, kids encounter nearly 3,000 algorithm-driven posts that amplify the inner critic until it becomes impossible to ignore. The Wrestler follows a child wrestling with the compounding pressures of influencer culture, peer comparison, and societal expectations — and shows what it really takes to fight back.
THE QUESTION
How do you show something kids can't put into words? Co-directors Ilyssa Berger Wilson and Tyler Maxson answered with a wrestling ring — where every opponent represents a different voice an eating disorder amplifies. They keep tagging in until the child can't tell which thoughts are even hers.
THE DECISION
There is no triumphant ending. No recovery montage. The film ends honestly: eating disorders are something you can wrestle with for life. Both directors are parents of young children. The algorithm is already building their profiles. That urgency is in every frame.
