To launch Sprout new ‘Homegrown Sound’ creative platform, which aims to support Australia’s declining music industry, we partnered with Australia’s most iconic indigenous rapper and culturally influential musicians, Briggs. As the godfather of Australian rap and a champion for local talent, Briggs was the only choice to lead our movement. The result was ‘Munarra’, a musical biopic inspired by Brigg’s own experiences overcoming the challenges of Australia’s tough music landscape. Featuring an aggressive rock-rap sound and defiant lyrics, the visceral film shows Briggs growing from a seed in the arid Australian red dirt, a visual metaphor for the tough industry environment, then breaking through the earth to become the homegrown icon he is today. The film’s visceral, visual storytelling was complemented by the unapologetically raucous track, as well as diegetic sound, which made viewers feel like they were deep underground as Briggs grows from seed to baby to full grown artist.
